So the last few weeks have been quite interesting but it's safe to say that everyone has come out of it fine. 3 weeks after my kids were born we began noticing an issue with my son, everything he ate came right back up 15-20min later. At first it was a little but as the time progressed so did the amount. We first thought it was the formula which at the time was isomil the soy variant of similac, we dropped that. Switched over to Enfamil Prosobee a milk based formula, gave that a try for a bit and still the same 15min after eating right back up. During this whole time about 1.5 weeks of it we were in constant consult with my sons doctor. He kept suggesting new formula's and we blindly listened, after all doc knows best. At the end of this run my son was projectile vomiting, loosing color in his face and eyes actually looked sunken in. I had enough, I called my doctor and he suggested since the last formula was not working we should switch to pedialyte and see if that would be kept down. I asked my doctor and if it does not? He told me we will see him in the morning and go from there.
I told him how my son was looking and asked to please give me an alternative I wanted to get a resolution as we were getting more distraught by the second. He mentioned we can go to Robert Wood Johnson hospital rather than our local hospital because the doctors were much better at what they did, regarding pediatrics there.
The hospital was about 30min from us we jumped in the car and headed down there, we arrived at about 3am. The nurses took him in to do a ultrasound of his stomach, a little while after we arrived. They took my wife along with him I hung back in the room they had given us. After a long wait they arrived and gave a diagnosis my son had something called
Pyloric Stenosis (click the link for more info) the only way to fix this was surgery. We couldn't fathom surgery at 3 weeks of age but what could we do, we agreed and it was scheduled. I will keep this short but the surgery was done and my son is now drinking all the formula he can (probably making up for lost time).
Since then other than crying, feedings every 2hrs the most we have seen is a chest cold for my son (which I now have, thanks Joshua) and crying, crying, crying... Here is the little champ today...
